Gary was born in Ohio, was awarded two degrees in Horticulture at Michigan State University, moved to San Francisco where he worked in the commercial nursery biz. He left that career and entered a new one for 20 years in the restaurant business and property management. He became a full-timer in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in April, 2010 after 31 years of visiting and staying a total of five months per year since 2005. He co-founded the Puerto Vallarta Garden Club, own and moderate two PV Yahoo Groups and writes for various paper publications and online websites on local restaurants and live entertainment events.
