Get ready for a Mexican-rainbow explosion in the Big Apple! Puerto Vallarta will be making a historic appearance at the iconic New York City Pride March on June 30th, 2024.
This marks the first time Puerto Vallarta will be on one of 55 floats in the parade, promoting the LGBTQ+ friendly destination, thanks to a strategic alliance with New York City Pride. It’s the only Latin American city represented in the march.
The alliance was formed after meetings at the Gala Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit event and done so with the support of the Consulate of Mexico in New York. It not only allows Puerto Vallarta to market itself to a large and important LGBTQ+ market in America (New York), it will also allow the two organizations to share good practices and support important social causes for the LGBTQ+ community.
Christian Preciado Cázares, director of Tourism and Economic Development of the Puerto Vallarta City Council, along with Luis Villaseñor Nolasco, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust; Miguel Heredia, Mexican Consulate in New York; Joshua Woods, director of operations of NYC Pride; and Javier Jiménez, president of Vallarta Pride, presented the news at a recent press conference.
In May of this year the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, along with the Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development and the President of the Association of LGBTQ+ Entrepreneurs of Puerto Vallarta, participated in several events with the Mexico Consulate on Times Square, with the celebration of “Cinco de Mayo” and other planned activities that included meetings with the media, as well as a training lunch with about 40 New York business partners, wholesalers, travel agencies, media and influencers.
“This is an excellent joint strategy through a collaboration agreement for Vallarta Pride and NYC Pride to create a synergy that will have a great tourist and economic impact for this port,” explained Preciado Cázares. “New York is one of the most important markets in the United States with a direct flight to Puerto Vallarta.”
The NYC Pride March first took place in 1970, one year after the Stonewall Uprising. It has since evolved into an annual civil rights demonstration. If you are interested in marching in the festival, you can register here.
The theme for this year’s NYC Pride Festival is “Reflect. Empower. Unite”.
