The Equality Movement in Mexico (MOViiMX) has reached an agreement with the Director of Citizen Security of Puerto Vallarta, Rigoberto Flores Parra, to provide training in human rights and sexual and gender diversity to the Municipal Police of this city.

The objective of the training is to promote inclusion and respect for diversity. In addition, it seeks to sensitize public security elements on the importance of respecting the human rights of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity and thus to prevent discrimination and violence towards the LGBTIQ+ population in the performance of police duties.

Flores Parra, Commissioner of Security, expressed his commitment and willingness to implement the instruction on human rights, equality and non-discrimination for the entire operational police force.

He expressed that this learning process would not only be carried out out of good will, but because it is an obligation of the public service to ensure that officers are well informed on these issues.

In addition, he agreed to coordinate dates and schedules according to the Municipal Police and Transit Academy calendar to ensure that all officers who deal directly with the public receive the necessary preparation.  The commissioner affirmed that this measure will contribute to a better relationship between the police and the community, which will result in a better service and a safer and more inclusive city.

For his part, Victor Espindola, coordinator of MOViiMX, emphasized the importance of properly trained members of the municipal police and noted that it is essential that officers understand the importance of treating all people with respect and dignity, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Meanwhile, Karla Abigail Macedo, President of the Vallarta Trans Collective, highlighted the significance of the municipal police acting in accordance with the law at all times. In addition, she mentioned that the agreed training benefits police officers, as it provides them with the necessary tools to perform their work effectively and professionally.

The Equality Movement in Mexico (MOViiMX) is a community-based organization that defends the human rights of the LGBTIQ+ population and offers communication, training, advocacy and counseling services. Its vision is an egalitarian and just society where the human rights of all people are guaranteed.

MOViiMX has established a work program for training in sexual diversity and human rights with clear goals and specific objectives. In this case, it is expected to transfer knowledge to the totality of operative elements of public security in Puerto Vallarta, in addition to evaluating the knowledge acquired through a questionnaire and follow-up with the participants.
