The Porch Cafe, an intimate new breakfast cafe, has just opened at Amapas 299. Located next to the iconic La Terraza Inn, and directly opposite the Hotel Tropicana, it’s sure to be an instant hit.
I visited on January 10th 2024, the day of the Grand Opening.
Red balloons at the entrance welcomed all who entered to celebrate the special day, and as one table opened up; it was quickly filled by another party. As I walked in I could hear the soothing sounds of Jazz wafting into the salt air, while large Palms swayed peacefully overhead. Tables are located within the relaxed, open air patio setting, and each table is provided with a carafe of crystal clear water. A QR code gives each guest the ability to access Wi-Fi, and view the encompassing menu online.

Owned by the well known Puerto Vallarta business trio Brian Kent, Bryan Stocks, and Roger Allen (who also own Judy’s Diner, Anonimo Bar, and One Six One), collectively, bring their industry expertise and passion for hospitality to The Porch.
The amazing backdrop to the space is a large cavernous wall that is painted with colorful flowers in full bloom, which is a tribute to the incredible artistry of Stocks. The art totally exudes a positive energy, and provides that sunshine feel to start the day.
The menu is concentrated on amazing breakfast options, however for those dining later in the morning, or into the early afternoon, there is a tasty selection of sandwiches available as well.
Dedicated to the quality, presentation, and freshness of each dish, Chef Omar and his team delight at every turn.
In an effort to keep costs low for their guests, only cash is accepted.
I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the new owners, Brian Kent, who shared they are “super excited to revitalize a space that has been dormant for many years.”
“The vision is to share the incredible food and tropical ambiance with the local, as well as the tourist community,” Kent said.
As I took my leave, a cloudy early morning sky gave way to bright sunshine, and in that moment, I couldn’t help but think what a great omen for this vibrant gastronomic delight, the clouds of dormancy giving way to the bright sunshine of this soon to be famous spot, called The Porch Café.
