About 100 activists, collectives and citizens marched from Hotel Rosita to the Malecón Arches on March 31, International Transgender Day of Visibility.
Chants rang out against discrimination and violence: “Equal rights for all transgender people,” “Here is the trans resistance,” “We exist because we resist” and “Vallarta, listen, this is your fight.”

Participants included Diverso UDG Puerto Vallarta, Movement for Equality in Mexico (MOVii), Orgullo Sincronodestino, Incluye, Vallarta Gay Plus Community Center and Puerto Vallarta Ballroom Community.
Municipal AIDS Council (COMUSIDA) representatives attended, along with Sexual Diversity Deputy Director Carlos Plascencia and Councilman Luis Escoto.
At Los Arcos near Plaza de Armas, officials unveiled the new pedestrian crossing in transgender flag colors. City Council approved Escoto’s proposal by absolute majority, mandating annual symbolic updates each March 31.
Escoto, who led the initiative, urged respect for all people and highlighted trans visibility. Plascencia said the Sexual Diversity Sub-Directorate offers open, specialized services for the trans community.
Activists spoke out. Mon Terrazas demanded rights recognition without gender identity distinctions. Jaxaryd stressed visibility for trans men. Ivana Camarena called for guaranteed recognition and respect for all transgender people.
Organizers also opened the “Presencias” photo exhibition of local transgender residents, paired with Spanish-language songs on the trans experience.
Red Diversidad Vallarta, Vallarta Queer, MOVii, Colectivo Diverso and Vallarta Gay Plus Community Center coordinated the visibility, remembrance and advocacy events.
