The City Council of Puerto Vallarta recently approved two significant actions in favor of human rights, inclusion, and the recognition of diversity within the municipality.
The “Sexual Diversity” category was approved for inclusion in the 2026 Youth ‘Renace’ Award. This aims to recognize young people who promote inclusion, equality, and the defense of the rights of people with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. This addition strengthens the representative nature of the award and aligns Puerto Vallarta with the national trend of recognizing LGBTIQ+ youth.
The 2026 Youth ‘Renace’ Award will recognize young people between the ages of 12 and 29 for their contributions to society across various categories. Details regarding the application process and the award ceremony date will be announced soon.

Permanent actions were approved for every March 31st in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility. This includes a symbolic intervention of public space by painting the outline of the pedestrian crosswalk at the corner of Morelos and Zaragoza streets in the city center as an act of visibility, respect, and recognition for transgender people.
Proposed by Councilman Luis Jesús Escoto Martínez, these two initiatives are the result of advocacy by trans collectives and the organization MOVii México, which was founded in 2016 by activists from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Travestie, Intersex, Queer, and more (LGBTIQ+) community.
These actions reaffirm Puerto Vallarta’s commitment to building a more just, inclusive society free of discrimination, consolidating the municipality as a benchmark for human rights and diversity.
