Puerto Vallarta will celebrate “Grito de Independencia”, which runs from September 13 to 16, 2024, with an array of festivities as the city comes alive with parades, concerts,traditional dances, and cultural events, offering a cultural experience for all.
The holiday, which generates millions of pesos in tourism revenue throughout Mexico, with an anticipated 1.2 million tourists arriving in different hotels throughout the country.
The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) has estimated that Puerto Vallarta has a projected hotel occupancy of 68.8 percent, placing it sixth in popularity in the Country. This tourist holiday is typically national, so it is estimated that the majority of travelers are Mexican, around 924 thousand – with the rest, just over 268,000, will be foreigners visiting the country during the celebrations commemorating the beginning of Independence. Airbnb has reported that the Independence Day weekend is one of the most booked of the year and, for 2024, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Puerto Escondido and Mérida are the most important destinations.
The annual parade will be held on September 16, 2024, with the route starting at 8:30 am at the corner of Guerrero and Morelos streets and ending at Hidalgo Park, on Morelos and Jesús Langarica streets.
The program of the Fiestas Patrias will be held on September 13 at 8:30 a.m. in the Plaza de El Pitillal.
September 14 is Jalisco Flag Day, with a ceremony at 8:30 in the Plaza Armas outside the Municipal Presidency.
September 14 is also the “Dia de Charro” – the day of the Mexican Cowboy. A parade will be held starting at 8 a.m. on Sept. 14, 2024, beginning at Morelos and Corona streets.
On Sunday the 15th a ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Municipal Presidency and the traditional Grito will be held starting at 11:00 at night, on the balcony of the General Secretariat (Morelos Street towards Malecón).
The Vallarta Institute of Culture has prepared an artistic festival for September 15th, starting at 6:00 p.m. on the Malecón, in front of the Municipal Presidency.
Performances will include the Xiutla Folklore Group directed by professor Enrique Barrios;. The queens elected in the municipal delegations of Ixtapa, El Pitillal, Las Juntas and Las Palmas will perform along with Memo Rijos; the northerner Komando Mr, the violinist from Arcano; Mariachi Internacional de México and the group La Sonora Dinamita de Javier Algain.
On September 16 the civic ceremony for Independence Day will be held at 7:30 a.m. in the Plaza de Armas, followed by the parade.
On the night of the Grito de Independencia, an artistic festival and dance are planned on the Malecón.
Mexican singer Alberto Cuevas will perform on Sept. 13 at La Botanita Restaurante, and on Sept. 15 at Margarita Grill as part of the celebrations.
