The final decision of the Miss Trans Beauty Mexico 2019 contest could be taken after four hours of analysis of the judges and a small protest on stage for a contestant who lost. The crown was given to a transsexual woman from the state of Colima, her name is Ivanna Cázares, newly declared queen of this beauty contest.
The contest is part of the efforts that have been made throughout this time to make transgender women visible and accepted in Mexican society. It should be noted that in Mexico today being a transgender woman is a danger. There are 261 cases of homicide against this sector registered between 2013 and 2018 according to the local LGBT rights group “Letter S”.
The 21 queens of transgender beauty participated in the bikini, regional dress and formal wear competition. The winner (Miss Colima) modeled an indigenous themed costume with leopard print and feathers.
The transition from man to woman in Cázares began three years ago. “It has been difficult to get the acceptance of others, but I have always had the support of my family.” The current beauty queen has a degree in communication and has a beauty salon. Here are some emotional words were she express her feelings minutes after receiving the crown. “I am tremendously happy and grateful for winning the contest Miss Trans Belleza México 2019. This is something that I did not expect because all the competitors were great.”
