Schools, universities and community organizations may register through September 9
Puerto Vallarta is preparing for one of Mexico’s most important national celebrations, with the city’s Civic-Military Parade scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, at 9 a.m. in the Centro neighborhood.
The parade commemorates the 216th anniversary of the beginning of Mexico’s War of Independence. The movement began in the early hours of September 16, 1810, when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla issued the historic call to arms known as the Grito de Dolores.
Each year, Independence Day celebrations begin on the evening of September 15 with a reenactment of the Grito de Independencia. The festivities continue the following morning with civic ceremonies and parades across the country celebrating Mexico’s history, culture and national identity.

In Puerto Vallarta, the Municipal Government’s Coordination of Civic Events and Department of Public Education are inviting public and private schools at the elementary, secondary and university levels, as well as civil and cultural organizations, to participate in this year’s parade.
Each contingent may include up to 150 participants. Schools and institutions must also submit a brief history of their organization, including the name of the school, its director and the teacher or representative in charge. The submission should also describe the activities the group plans to present during the parade.
Registration will remain open through Wednesday, September 9. Interested groups can contact Fausto Jacobo Hernández at 322-381-2926, 322-211-8576 or 322-182-0944, or email educacion@puertovallarta.gob.mx.
Applications may also be submitted in person at the Municipal Department of Public Education, located at Milenium 143 in the La Aurora neighborhood. Additional information is available from the Coordination of Civic Events at 322-223-2500, extension 1235.
The parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, in Puerto Vallarta’s Centro neighborhood.
