A vibrant new haven for art, food, and cultural immersion in Puerto Vallarta has opened and its more than just a shop – it’s a collective dream come true.
Hecho Aqui, located on Aquiles Serdan, opened in January 2024, and this vibrant space pulsates with art, food, and a whole lot of local culture.
The story behind Hecho Aqui unfolds like a warm Puerto Vallarta afternoon. Three friends, Rafa, a chef with a passion for sharing his culinary expertise, Mario, a talented visual artist, and Juan Carlos, an actor with a nurturing green thumb, decided to join forces. Their initial plan was a simple Airbnb, but the creative spark ignited something more.
Walking into Hecho Aqui is like stepping into a kaleidoscope. Art of all shapes and sizes adorns the walls, handcrafted pieces whisper stories of local artisans, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the scent of poetry readings held in a cozy corner. Upstairs, a state-of-the-art cooking school beckons aspiring chefs.
Here, Chef Rafa, a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America and a seasoned instructor at the University of Tijuana, unveils the secrets of Mexican cuisine.
One of their most popular offerings is the churro making class. With over 500 five-star reviews, it’s a testament to Chef Rafa’s infectious enthusiasm and the joy of creating a classic Mexican treat.
But the culinary exploration doesn’t stop there. Upon request, guests can delve into the art of making zesty salsas or whip up comforting antojitos, Mexico’s answer to soul food.
And if hunger pangs strike while browsing the artwork, a delightful surprise awaits. In mid-April, a pop-up torta stand named Tortilocas emerged within Hecho Aqui.
“When the sign is up,” Chef Rafa winks, “we have tortas!”
Hecho Aqui is a living, breathing entity. Every day, new pieces of art find their place on the walls, innovative food options tantalize taste buds, and the collective spirit continues to flourish.
