A wildly enthusiastic, sold-out crowd greeted Hedda Lettuce, The Green Goddess of Puerto Vallarta, for her very first show of the New Year on Wednesday January 3, 2024 at The Palm Cabaret and Bar. As Hedda took the stage, she looked ravenous in all her green glory, singing, “I’m the Queen of Green,” to thunderous applause.

Hedda shone elegantly in a colorful green wig and sparkling green dress, perfectly accessorized with her bright green purse and Liberace sized green rings. Beginning her ninth season in PV with a bang, Hedda intoned “Thank you for choosing me over a Taco Stand.” She then dove into a rendition of, “Hedda’s Here, and I’m All the Rage.”

A large portion of the performance that followed was her incredible interaction and connection with her adoring audience.

The first encounter was with a blonde belly dancer from North Carolina, who was attending the performance with her boyfriend, a musician from Virginia. Hilarity promptly ensued, as Hedda peering into the front row asked, is this the last gay supper, then inquiring, “who’s Judas, who’s Jesus,” as the crowd roared with laughter.

A fun interaction between Hedda and a proctologist from Chicago had the audience in hysterics when Hedda commented, “finally a gay man with a job that makes sense.”

As Hedda discovered an audience member from Seattle she then dove into the politically correct nature of the modern world, declaring “a belly dancer is now called a navel engineer,” then observing, “a hooker is now called a hand model,” all the while leaving the audience in stitches.

Discovering a Texan in the audience, Hedda intoned, “I’m the woman of a certain age with a prostate that’s having an abortion because I’m having a hysterical pregnancy, so sue me Seattle.”

I watched with laughter and amazement at her incredible repertoire of one liners and improvisational ability. As Hedda recalled names and facts of people she had previously spoken with, she then wove their story into the shtick of the current moment.

Poking fun at the booming development of Puerto Vallarta in recent years, she stated “if you stand on a street corner too long here, someone will build a condo on your back,” as the audience howled.

The song, Dancing Queen had everyone clapping, singing along and having the time of their lives.

Sponsoring the show are two well known local businesses, PV Now Entertainment Guide, and ThrIVe IV & MedSpa. The entire show was produced and directed by Hedda Lettuce, and the flow of the production was flawless.

As the evening came to a close, Hedda laughingly reminded the crowd, “if you see something, don’t say something, mind your own fxxking business.” Smiling, she then looked out at the audience, with the spotlight shining down upon her, and shared “now I have to go home and count my blessings, see you next time.”

As I walked out into the early January night, there was no doubt in my mind; I will definitely see Hedda Lettuce again, and again.
