Opening Reception Held at Galeria Browne on Feb. 7, 2024 from 7 to 9 p.m.
In his third solo show with Galeria Browne, Omar Garcia de Alba B. strips down skin-deep beauty in all its seven layers to reveal a new paradigm in how we view art of the human form.
In Symphony #7 he draws on the various forms of seven as not only a cabalistic number or a representation of seven colors of light but also as a representation of the many layers of humanity that go far deeper than the seven layers of skin.
Whether it is in the bold movements of his Ethereal Dance pieces or in the quiet comfort of the Rebozo series Omar “composes a symphony” with various parts and instruments creating song for the senses as well as a melody for the mind.
A self-described practitioner of syncretism – the practice of combining different beliefs and schools of thought – Omar’s use of color and movement transcends the physical world embracing traditional and abstract forms that tell a story of colorful harmony. Indeed, Mexican culture is traditionally rooted in syncretism, but in Symphony #7 we see a neo-syncretism emerge.
This new school of art, coming out of Jalisco, uses colors, textures, and techniques to fully embrace humanity’s interconnectedness, showing more of what unites us than divides us. It is amongst these neo-syncretists that Omar is emerging as a leader as well as a master practitioner.
