A 17-year annual gathering of bears in Puerto Vallarta has been canceled for 2021, with organizers saying the pandemic safety concerns brought about the cancellation, which was to be held Jan. 24 to 31, 2021.
In a letter posted on Facebook on Nov. 1, organizer Steve Buczek wrote that the decision to cancel was difficult to make, saying “we are aware that BeefDip has had a tremendous economic impact on Puerto Vallarta over the past seventeen years bringing in millions of dollars over the week-long event and has provided over a hundred thousand dollars in fundraising revenue to local community organizations.”
With Covid-19 raging and no end in sight, Buczek wrote that his primary concern was keeping patrons and residents of Puerto Vallarta safe, and he did not want the event to become a “super spreader” event in the community.
“BeefDip stands with the people of Puerto Vallarta and our patrons to keep them safe and healthy through these most challenging times,” he wrote.
BeefDip 2022 has been set for Jan. 30 to February 6, 2022.
The majority of comments on the social media announcement were positive with patrons understanding and supporting the decision.
