More than 76,000 Pesos Raised

The azure waters of the Pacific Ocean and the lush greenery of the Sierra Madre Mountains made the perfect setting for a recent fundraiser for the new Vallarta Gay+ Community Center, where more than $76,000 pesos was raised.

Vallarta Yacht Rentals graciously opened its decks, to support the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center. Their luxurious 48-foot yacht, the Escandalo, became the vessel of camaraderie and compassion as it set sail with a purpose. The event was organized by Paul Crist, Hotel Mercurio owner and an early supporter of the new Gay+ Community Center.

The new Vallarta Gay+ Community Center is offering vital services such as PrEP, PEP, DoxyPep, and STI testing – all aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of community members. The clinic started seeing patients around Jan. 15, 2024 and is temporarily operating out of ThrIVe IV MedSpa.

The fundraising cruise was a gathering of hearts and minds, of individuals dedicated to fostering inclusivity and wellness within the community. With an open bar serving refreshing libations and gourmet snacks tantalizing the taste buds, the atmosphere onboard was one of conviviality and generosity.

Among the esteemed guests were pillars of the community, including Crist, alongside Don Pickens, interim board president of the Vallarta Gay+ Center and owner of Casa Cupula; Tom Budniak and his esteemed guests (Budniak owns Spartacus, Hamam Spa, and Que Bolá Cuban Restaurant); Jet De La Isla, interim board member of the Vallarta Gay+ Center (and owner of Jet’s Adventures, Jet’s Boat Tours and Jet’s Gay Hostel); John O. Jones, César Rivera, Logan Miller (Villa Lola) and Julie Guerrero.

Donors who were unable to join the cruise, but generously donated, included Robert Josef Cross and Rob Boyd.

“It wasn’t just a sum of money that we raised – it was a testament to the unwavering dedication of a community rallying together for a brighter, more inclusive future,” explained Crist.
