[Editor’s Note: The following was sent to OAPV and asked to be shared by the Vallarta Diversity Network as an opinion piece about Councilor Gómez and his recent trip to New York Pride. This opinion represents those of The Vallarta Diversity Network and not O&APV. The network is made up of eleven organizations here in Puerto Vallarta, and is dedicated to promoting the rights and inclusion of the LGBTIQ+ community. A delegation represented Puerto Vallarta this year at NYC and participated in their Pride Parade. ]
From the Vallarta Diversity Network, we express our astonishment at the change of opinion of Councilor Pablo Ruperto Gómez, who previously publicly opposed the raising of the LGBTIQ+ flag in Puerto Vallarta (most recently in Ixtapa on May 17), and now supports the visibility of diversity by participating in New York Pride.
We consider this act as a small step towards greater understanding and support for our community. However, in the interest of transparency and accountability, we request that expenses related to such travel be publicly reported, ensuring that it was conducted with integrity and for the benefit of our community.
We will continue working for a more inclusive and respectful society for all people.
Sincerely,
Vallarta Diversity Network
