QUEER/CUIR and Vallarta Pride: 10 Years in Photographs

Cultural Projects Office in collaboration with Vallarta Pride presents, QUEER/CUIR and Vallarta Pride: 10 years in photographs, in the framework of the 9th anniversary of OPC and the 10th anniversary of Vallarta Pride.

Queer/Cuir is a multidisciplinary exhibition of contemporary art that brings together the work of twelve national and international artists whose work is representative of queer/cuir. Vallarta Pride: 10 years in photographs gathers visual testimonies of the 10 years of Vallarta Pride through the work of several photographers.

Queer/Cuir

The term Queer (strange, eccentric), was used since the end of the 19th century in Anglo-Saxon countries as an insult for homosexual people or those who did not correspond performatively to their gender role. In the 21st century, queer has been reappropriated in Latin America and the term cuir has emerged to continue to make visible this gender expression present in the LGBTTTIQ+ community with its cultural nuances in Latin America.

Participating in this exhibition are artists whose work provides us with a panorama that allows us to explore the term queer/cuir: Aldo Alvarez Tostado, Alejandro Serratos, Alina Kiliwa, Austin Young, Fabian Cháirez, Kaoru Katayama, Lila Dipp, Natalia Martínez Mejía, Omar Gámez, Rolando Vargas, Ricardo Ramos, Suzuya Bobo, curated by Sayuri Sánchez and Oscar Morán.

Alternate to the Queer/Cuir exhibition, Oficina de Proyectos Culturales presents PRIDE VALLARTA: 10 years in photographs, a visual exhibition that aims to recount the evolution of this festival held for the first time in 2013 and emerged from local efforts in favor of the visibilization of the LGBTTIQ+ community in our city.

Participating in this exhibition are photographers Josef Kandoll, Sean Mc Gill, among other regular witnesses of this event. The opening will be held in the William Hobi room of Taller OPC on May 19.

The opening of both shows is May 19, 2023 at 7:00PM. The welcome cocktail is sponsored by Tequila 1800 through Propom PR. Music will be provided by DJ Intracity (@Djintracity).
