East Emiliano Zapata Nightclub Will Offer After Hours Fun
Harkening back to the 1920s when alcohol was illegal to purchase (in the United States), a new “speakeasy” type bar is opening in Puerto Vallarta, offering a new concept that has yet to be seen in Zona Romantica.
The Social Club, Basilio Badillo 447 Zona Romántica (next to the Tunnel Bar), will open its doors officially on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 with a special VIP event. The new bar replicates the style and atmosphere of the old speakeasy nightclubs. While it will be catering to the LGBTQ+ community, it is open to all.
From the scantily marked entrance (you’ll see a small doorway with SC on it) you’ll go up a flight of stairs, and press a buzzer, requesting entry. The new club definitely maintains a sense of mystery and exclusivity that was the hallmark of the old speakeasies.
Inside you’ll find dim lighting, an upscale vintage decor spread over four multi-level very distinct rooms – each with their own personality. Two outdoor areas including one with an outdoor bar, and a wide selection of curated craft cocktails. Decorations include memorabilia from Elizabeth Taylor’s estate, old photographs collected from other estate sales and friends of the owners.
Live music, and unusual performances are in store for visitors, but all will be unannounced in keeping with the mysterious theme of an old speakeasy.
The Social Club will be open from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., filling a void in the bar scene by staying open later than many of the other bars.
Friends Team Up
It’s the brainchild of Bryan Stocks, Roger Allen and Brian Kent who are also business partners with the club One Six One, The Porch (a breakfast restaurant) and soon a new restaurant called The Brick Oven. Stocks and Allen also own The Tunnel Bar (along with Tamale Ringwald and Bill Baker (Sugarbaker), and own Anonimo Bar.
Kent, Allen and Stocks (Allen and Stocks are also life partners), met casually one day through a mutual friend. They all became friends and Kent mentioned wanting to open an upscale lounge that featured house music. Allen and Stocks had been thinking the same thing and the club One Six One became a reality, opening next to Anonimo Bar (which was purchased by Allen and Stocks in 2017).
Kent said they work well as business partners because they all have individual strengths that combine to make an amazing team.
“We all bring out the best in each other,” he said. “We have individual strengths that combine well, and we’re an amazing force when we are working together.”
For instance, Stocks, an artist and Allen, an interior designer, handled much of the decorating for The Social Club and searched for old estate items from the early 1900s. Kent, a Billboard Recording Artist focused on sound, lighting and entertainment aspect with all focusing on the buildout of the space and planning for the upcoming opening and marketing.
“We have some great entertainment planned,” Kent said, “with singers, jazz music, piano players, Burlesque shows, magicians and more. But they will just happen, all unexpected – we won’t promote when they are going to happen. Much like the old speakeasies did.”
The Social Club will employ 10 plus staff members, all with experience and as Kent said “sexy, fun with great personalities and all looking forward to welcoming our community to The Social Club.”
