12-Year-Old Pianist Melina Reyes Santillan and Vocalist Amitahba Lopez Claim Top Honors

The Palm Cabaret and Bar hosted the second round of “So You Think You Can Rise” on Sunday, January 21, 2024, drawing a packed house.

Seven contestants showcased their talents in singing, playing instruments, and dancing for judges Gabe Arciniega, Mama Tits, and Luis Villaneuva.

Daniel Celis not only hosted the event but also treated the audience to a performance of songs from his show ‘Rocketman,’ a tribute to Elton John.

The singer category was claimed by Amitahba Lopez from Vera Cruz, coached by Stephanie Wright Watts. Her rendition of ‘Never Enough’ secured her the victory.

Reflecting on the tough competition in the performance category, organizer Lisa Manoogian mentioned standout performances, including Muguet Castro’s exceptional drumming and an impressive dance group of young girls named ADI. The judges faced challenging decisions amid the high level of talent.

An amazing lineup of 32 performers are participating in the third season of the “So You think You Can RISE” Variety Talent Show. Two contestants from each show will advance from each preliminary show to the grand finale at Teatro Vallarta on Feb. 18, 2024.  The next shows will be held Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. at The Palm Cabaret. The grand finale is Feb. 18 at Teatro Vallarta.

The show is a fundraiser  for RISE children’s shelter, which provides a home to children who were living in very unfortunate circumstances.  Visit the website, www.risepv.com, for more information on the shelter.
