130 Players Will Participate March 14 to 17
The Gay Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA), a global tennis association with more than 20,000 members, will hold Coconutz Puerto Vallarta 2024 in Puerto Vallarta as part of a world tour of tennis tournaments that will travel through Europe, Asia, Australia, the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America.
The competition is divided into singles, doubles and categories, with Open being the highest level, followed by A which represents a high level, B intermediate and C low.
The event in Puerto Vallarta will take place from March 14 to 17 on the fields of Parota Park and admission will be free. Game times from Thursday to Saturday will be from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm and on Sunday from 10:00 am for the grand final.
The prizes for first and second place in each category are art trophies made by one of the most representative indigenous communities in the region. Among the tournament activities, a reception will be held to inform the participants of the details of the championship and a closing party full of Mexican flavor on the terrace of the Grand Miramar hotel, where the impressive views of the bay will seal the visit of the contenders.
In this first edition, 130 players of different nationalities will participate, including American, Canadian, Australian, Filipino, German, Armenian, English, Irish, Dutch, South African, Costa Rican, Puerto Rican, Jamaican, Malaysian, Indian, Peruvian and, of course, Mexican.
Although the acronym GLTA only refers to the gay and lesbian community, this association promotes inclusion, so the call is open to the entire LGBTQ+ community, as well as heterosexuals who wish to participate.
Although it is not a professional tennis association, many members have a high level of performance, so a very good level of play is expected. The event takes place in a 100% family and sports environment, with food and drinks for sale for attendees.
“This is the first edition of an official GLTA tournament in Mexico,” said Rodrigo Velázquez Mendiolea, tournament director. “This is a world-renowned tennis organization in the community, which will bring economic benefits to Puerto Vallarta through flights, lodging, food consumption and local transportation for the participating players and those who come to support them.”
With the celebration of this first edition of the Coconutz Tournament, Puerto Vallarta consolidates itself as the leading beach destination in hosting sporting events and for the LGBTQ+ community at the national level and one of the main ones at the international level.
The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, with the support of the State Government and the municipal authorities, will continue to promote and encourage that all sectors of the population and those who visit us have spaces and activities for their healthy recreation and recreation.
