Puerto Vallarta is certified as a Health Promoting Municipality

The Ministry of Health of the State of Jalisco (SSJ) has awarded Puerto Vallarta the certification as a Health Promoting Municipality, for implementing different actions to improve the health conditions of Vallartans, as well as promoting healthy lifestyles, prevention diseases and actions to have a physical and psychosocial environment that contributes to individual and family well-being.

“Since the beginning of this government administration, we have worked in the Puerto Vallarta municipality and Sanitary Region VIII. Through various actions and health fairs, with the purpose of advising and working in a coordinated manner to align the activities on the municipal agenda”. Informed Jaime Álvarez Zayas, director of Sanitary Region VIII during the certification ceremony.

The official indicated that a Health Promoter municipality is one that, once a social pact has been achieved between the representative organizations of civil society, the institutions of the different sectors and the local political authorities. Commits and executes health actions to improve the quality of life of the population.

Some of the actions undertaken include: the installation of the Municipal Health Committee; update the Situational Health Diagnosis of the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta; training and updating of public servants on health issues; elaboration of the Municipal Work Program for the Promotion of Health of the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta.

Health promotion projects were also developed. Such as the prevention of cervical and breast cancer. In addition to attention to obesity, suicide prevention, the program “For a Vallarta without Dengue” and the prevention of heart disease.

During the event, the municipal president of Puerto Vallarta, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado; Felipe de Jesús Razo, Director of Social Participation on behalf of the head of the SSJ, Fernando Petersen Aranguren; Rafael Ahmed Franco Aguilar, chief of the executive office of the municipal government of Aguascalientes; María Laurel Carrillo Ventura, Councilor of the Health Commission and Susana Rodríguez Mejía. Director of Beach Tourism of the Vallarta municipality.
