Puerto Vallarta officials and LGBTQ+ community groups raised the Pride flag Sunday, May 17, 2026, at several public spaces across the city in observance of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

The commemorative ceremonies took place at Plaza del Pitillal, Parque Hidalgo, Plaza Lázaro Cárdenas, City Hall and, for the first time, the Unidad Municipal Administrativa building, according to municipal officials.
The flag-raising events were held as part of the city’s ongoing Pride activities and served as a public show of support for inclusion and diversity under the municipal administration of Mayor Luis Munguía.

Karla Vivian Bravo Pérez, director of Equity and the Fight Against Inequality, said the Pride flag represents “the struggle, resistance, dignity, freedom and pride” of people who for years have sought visibility, recognition and respect.
Officials and attendees also observed a moment of silence in memory of Óscar Gael Maldonado and in recognition of victims of violence and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.
