Mama Tits Shines in Guts and Glitter at The Palm

I don’t know about anyone else, but after a week that included; a hurricane, torrential rain, power outages, and practically nonexistent Wi-Fi, by Saturday October 14th I was in the mood for an uplifting, and fun experience.

I found it at The Palm Cabaret, with the inspiring performance of Mama Tits and her perfectly titled show Guts & Glitter

Mama owned the stage from the moment she emerged in all her glory. Accompanied by Diego, her right hand man, and backup singer, along with talented dancers; Carlos and Paco, she charged into one of her first shows of the newseason with the contagious bombasity that has endeared her to loyal fans for years.

With technical direction from Sebastien LePage, the new show has maintained the ever popular “roll call,” a fun, who’s in the house exercise, connecting Mama to her audience from the very beginning of each encounter.

As she said, to audience laughter, “I want to know who is here, and why are they crazy enough to come to a Mama Tits show?”

As Mama belted out song after powerful song, she showcased a theme of resilience and the need to find joy in the world, despite the challenges we, as humans all face.

Mama shared the mantra that turned her own life around, telling a hushed audience, “the moment you fall in love with yourself, is the moment your life will change forever.”

A booming rendition of the 1984 hit by Foreigner, I Want to Know What Love Is, immediately followed.  As Mama then announced, “this next song saved me,” an emotion filled, Everybody Hurts by R.E.M. from 1992, was beautifully presented. Mama, towering and electric, was accompanied in song by Diego, as Carlos and Paco danced in unison. Everyone wanted more as the evening drew to a close.

As I departed, Mama’s words rang in my ears, “you’ve got to throw the glitter on when times are hard,” she said.

Come soon to witness the guts, glitter, and glory that Mama Tits brings to each and every show, you will be glad you did.
