Las Victorias de Samotracia, a one-of-a-kind photography art exhibit opened on December 27th 2023 at Emotions by Corsica, featuring eleven sensual photographs by well known Puerto Vallarta Artist Abraham Solares.

Based on the statue, The Winged Victory of Samothrace, each work is a unique representation of that world renowned piece that was discovered in 1863 on the Greek island of the same name. It now stands elegantly and alone in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. Its existence has played a pivotal role in the life’s work of Abraham, influencing his vision from a young age.

The incredibly soul searching works of photography were displayed in the brightly lit gallery, as five large works took center stage, while six smaller oil based pieces were pleasingly displayed nearby.

A holiday crowd packed the gallery, as Abraham’s exhibit coincided with the ever popular Art Walk (the Art Walk, which goes from October 25th 2023 until June 26th 2024, takes place from 6-10 p.m. and provides a great opportunity for art lovers to browse and check out the latest offerings from talented local, national, and international artists). As admirers greeted Abraham, he and I chatted about the process and vision that goes into every piece of his unique works of art.

As we sipped a bold red, Abraham discussed his technique, “first I create the story I want to share, then I do the casting for the character who will represent their own particular role,’’ he continued. “Once I have the models selected, we do test shots, which is myself and the model working with total freedom, there is no script.”

Reflecting anew on how the statue of The Winged Victory of Samothrace has guided his art and the vision for it, Abraham shared, “the Samothrace, represents my everything, my muse, I fell in love years ago with the fragmentation of the body, which has no head or arms attached,” he continued, “that representation of beauty was my inspiration for all that has followed.”

Concluding, he stated with reverence, “the statue represents victory, and that is also what this exhibit represents, victory.”

As the evening drew to a close, I asked Abraham what his message is, for those who will be enjoying his awe inspiring photography in the coming days, and weeks.

He reflected for a moment, and then answered thoughtfully, “these photographs represent the eternal beauty of each soul, I don’t see imperfection, I see the soul,” concluding, Abraham requested, I would just ask for everyone to view each human body as a beautiful soul, I normally don’t show the face in most of my photographs, because without face and eyes, which can lie, the body will share all with us, it tells the story.”

Come soon, and delight in the incredible Abraham Solares “Las victorias de Samotracia” exhibit at Emotions By Corsica. As he so eloquently stated, “This exhibit encapsulates my efforts to this juncture, this is the ending of the beginning, because there is more coming.”
