The 26th edition of the Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival kicked off with the opening ceremony featuring the presentation of the Golden Iguana Award to Brazilian director Allan Deberton, in recognition of his distinguished cinematic career.
Luis Munguia, Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, presided over the event on Monday afternoon, April 27, 2026. During his speech, the Mayor emphasized that collaboration between the government and educational institutions is vital for fostering local talent and film production in the region.
Extending an invitation to the public, he stated: “Today, I invite you to enjoy the screenings, participate in the activities, and be part of this grand celebration of art and culture.”
The opening night featured a screening of “FEITO PIPA” (Gugu’s World), directed by Deberton himself. The film is part of the Maguey Prize selection, which showcases cinematic works focused on LGBTQI+ themes.
Organized by the University of Guadalajara through Cultura UDG, the festival runs from April 27 to 30. Screenings are free to the public at various venues across the city, including the Centro Universitario de la Costa, the Puerto Vallarta Regional High School Library, Los Mangos Library, and Cinépolis Pitillal.
