With Puerto Vallarta Pride 2026 approaching, local businesses are anticipating a 17 million peso economic boost as the city prepares to welcome an anticipated 40,000 or more visitors for one of its most important annual events.

The event, themed “La Nueva Era: Un Pride Muy Mexicano,” is scheduled for May 17–24, 2026, with Jhonny Caz headlining the block party.

The annual Vallarta Pride festival generates about 17 million pesos in economic activity for the city, according to a March 30, 2026 report by El Economista.

“Approximately 17 million pesos, just from this festival,” said Carlos Ernesto Plascencia  Ramírez, the city’s director of sexual diversity, in an interview cited by El Economista.

The figure reflects spending tied specifically to the Pride celebration, which draws tens of thousands of visitors each year. In 2025, the event attracted about 40,000 tourists from countries including the United States, Canada and across Europe and Latin America, according to El Economista.

The economic boost comes at a pivotal moment for Puerto Vallarta’s tourism sector following a series of incidents on Feb. 22. In the weeks that followed, local businesses reported a slowdown in visitor activity, underscoring the importance of major events such as Pride in helping restore traveler confidence and economic momentum.

Officials say the Pride celebration is only a snapshot of a much larger economic engine. LGBTQ travelers account for about 30% of visitors to Puerto Vallarta and generate roughly 40% of total tourism revenue, making the segment one of the most lucrative for the destination.

That influence has been building for years. In 2023, Puerto Vallarta welcomed an estimated 2 million LGBTQ visitors, who generated a record 17 billion pesos for the local economy, according to data from the city’s tourism board previously reported by Out & About PV.

The concentration of that spending is especially visible in the Zona Romántica, where LGBTQ-focused businesses dominate the hospitality landscape and, in some cases, account for the majority of revenue among local establishments.

Puerto Vallarta has positioned itself as one of the leading LGBTQ destinations in Mexico and globally, with Pride serving as a cornerstone event since its launch in 2013.
