Más Blondies Brings the Blondies Vibe to Calle Lazaro Cardenas
Blondies, Puerto Vallarta’s original adult slushbar, is expanding and has opened its third location, Más Blondies, Calle Lazaro Cardenas 279C, is in what was the Mercurio Swim shop, and strategically located right near all the nightclubs.
It joins Los Otros Blondies, which opened in October 2019, and Blondies Loft, the first location, that opened in 2015.
Mas Blondies is open from 10 a.m. to Midnight, and during high season, it will stay open until 2 a.m
The new location continues the Blondies boutique/slushbar concept that has been developed over the past nine years by owners Shawn McGuire and Dino Alberti.
“You’ll find lots of fashion and merchandise, as well as six flavors of slushies, with a selection of beer, sodas and select tequilas for shots,” explained McGuire. “It’s a pared down version of our full bars. It’s dynamite in a small package!”
McGuire and Alberti had looked to expand a few years ago next door to the new location, but couldn’t come to terms on the lease. When Hotel Mercurio closed, along with its associated swimsuit stores, they reached out to owner Paul Crist to see if there was something they could do to help him.
“When we saw what Paul was going through with Mercurio, we saw an opportunity that we thought would benefit both of us,” McGuire explained. “We were able to help out by purchasing their industrial sewing equipment and take over the lease of the space, which we then negotiated to extend with the owner. A couple of his former employees have joined our team as well, so I think it was the best outcome for all of us under the circumstances.”
Blondies General Manager Juan Ramon Marquez will oversee the operations with a team of older and newer faces from the other Blondies. Mas Blondies will have approximately five new employees.
To celebrate the opening, Más Blondies will be offering all slushies and beers at happy hour prices (only at the Más Blondies location) during the month of September.
“Come check out the new space and enjoy an ice cold Blondies slushie for just $100 pesos,” McGuire said. “Same premium liquors, fresh fruit mixes and some new flavors to try!”
Blondies was named “best happy hour” bar in 2023 in the Puerto Vallarta Best of Gays Awards. Blondies was also a finalist for Best Cocktail Bar and Best Fashion Store in the Best of Gays Awards – which speaks for the diversity of its product lines.
