MOVii Says “One Step Forward, But with Much to Do

The Movement for Equality in Mexico (MOVii) is celebrating Puerto Vallarta’s nominations in the LGBTQ+ Travel Awards Mexico 2023.

“These achievements that reflect an inclusive and diverse environment, and highlights the importance of continuing to work for a more equitable future,” MOVii said in a news release. “We applaud the commitment of Puerto Vallarta, Almar Resort, Café des Artistes, Pride Puerto Vallarta and Grand Miramar Puerto Vallarta for their contribution to LGBTQ+ inclusion.”

MOVii took the occasion to suggest some initiatives that could further strengthen Puerto Vallarta’s commitment to diversity and inclusion are:

  1. Create a human rights category in the Vallarta Prize to recognize the commitment to the promotion and defense of human rights.
  2. Promote citizen participation of the LGBTIQ+ population through the creation of a Diversity Council, which allows active collaboration in decision-making and public policies.
  3. Harmonize local legislation, repealing discriminatory concepts such as “lack of morality and good customs” in the police and good government regulations.
  4. Generate inclusive public policies and allocate budget to social programs aimed at the sexually diverse population, with the aim of addressing existing inequalities.

“Puerto Vallarta is a beacon of diversity and inclusion, but we should not stop there. Let’s continue building together a Mexico where everyone feels valued and respected,” the organization said.

The LGBTQ+ Travel Awards Mexico recognize the best in tourism for the group nationwide, promoting the best destinations with the essence of inclusion, service and excellence in hospitality.

The important nominations that the green pearl of the Mexican Pacific obtained are:

Beach Destination of the Year – Puerto Vallarta
Concept Hotel of the Year – Almar Resort
Restaurant of the year – Café des Artistes
Admirable project of the year – Pride Puerto Vallarta
Ally of the year – Grand Miramar Puerto Vallarta

Voting is now available on the site www.unetlgbt.org and will close on October 10. The winners will be announced and recognized at the International Gala on October 26 in Morelia, Michoacán, in the presence of Secretaries of Tourism, representatives of the tourism industry and community leaders, among other personalities.

It should be noted that due to its environment of respect, wide range of LGBTQ+ friendly options, such as tours, festivals, restaurants, beach clubs and bars, Puerto Vallarta has been a multi-award winning destination with national and international recognition for notable awards such as Gay Travel. Awards; in addition to being part of important rankings such as “Pride Trend Destinations Year after Year” and one of the “Best LGBTQ+ Airbnb Destinations”.

This coming November will be a post-tour destination for the Gay Games 2023, the most important sporting and cultural event in the world for the inclusion of the LGBTQ+ population.
