A new event aimed at celebrating LGBTIQ+ diversity and boosting tourism during Puerto Vallarta’s summer low season could debut later this summer, featuring nationally known performers, cultural programming, activist recognition events and entertainment activities across the city. The proposed Diversity Week is expected to take place between late July and early August if final state funding and approval is granted.
The initiative is being spearheaded by the Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government’s Office of Sexual Diversity, headed by Carlos Plascencia, and is expected to take place between late July and early August 2026 at various venues throughout the city that have yet to be announced.
According to Plascencia, the project would be made possible through an agreement between the municipal government and the Jalisco State Entertainment Agency. The projected budget for the event is 8 million pesos (approximately $459,770 USD) with the state entertainment agency providing 7 million pesos (approximately $402,298 USD) and an additional 1 million pesos provided by Puerto Vallarta. 1 million pesos (approximately $57,471 USD), was approved during a City Council session held on June 5, 2026.

In an interview with O&APV, Plascencia said the festival is awaiting final approval from the Jalisco State Entertainment Agency before organizers can officially confirm the event and announce its programming.
“This is the first time we have sought funding from the Jalisco State Entertainment Agency, and if approved, it could become an annual initiative,” Plascencia said. “From the Office of Sexual Diversity, we are working to lessen the impact of the low season, and we believe this is a way to achieve that goal while celebrating and uplifting our diverse community.”
Plascencia added that City Councilman Luis Escoto presented the proposal to the council, where the municipality’s portion of the agreement was approved.
“The proposal has already completed the municipal approval process, and now we are waiting for the agency’s final response so we can make an official announcement and share more details,” he said.
Among the activities under consideration are a concert featuring three nationally recognized artists, a red-carpet event connected to an international reality television program, a gala dinner honoring local and national LGBTQ+ activists, as well as nightclub events and pool parties.
According to Plascencia, the Jalisco State Entertainment Agency supported the proposal because of its potential to attract visitors and generate economic activity for tourism-dependent municipalities across the state.
Additional details about the event are expected to be announced in the coming weeks through the social media channels of the Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government and the Office of Sexual Diversity.
