In an important follow-up to the meeting held between the mayor and representatives of the LGBTIQ population on September 22, 2022, the constitutional municipal president of Puerto Vallarta, Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, presented a building agreement initiative for the creation of the Municipal Council of Sexual and Gender Diversity.
This action was the result of the work coordinated by the public servant Roberto Ramos, director of the DIF Vallarta, designated to carry out these actions. Last year, the meeting between the mayor and the representatives of the LGBTIQ community made it possible to understand the needs and challenges they face in their daily lives, as well as to listen to their proposals to promote inclusion and respect in the municipality.
From that meeting, the initiative to create the Municipal Council for Sexual and Gender Diversity was promoted, with the aim of generating significant changes in favor of equality and non-discrimination. Through this council, it will seek to promote public policies that guarantee respect for the rights of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Regarding the building agreement unanimously approved with 12 votes in favor, the Movement for Equality in Mexico, MOVii, recognized and congratulated the municipal president, Lic. Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, for his commitment in favor of sexual and gender diversity. MOVii reaffirmed its commitment to work together with the recently created Municipal Council to promote progress in the protection and recognition of the rights of all people.
The Council will be made up of a President, who will be the Municipal President, and in case of absence, he will be replaced by the representative he designates. In addition, it will have an Executive Secretary, who will be the person in charge of the Directorate of Social Development. The councilors who preside over the Permanent Building Commissions for Gender Equality and Integral Human Development, Justice and Human Rights, and Citizen Participation, or as the case may be, the persons designated will also be present.
Likewise, the holders of different dependencies of the Municipal Public Administration will be incorporated, including the Sub-directorate of Citizen Participation, the Directorate of Urban Development and Environment, the Directorate of Inspection and Regulations, the Directorate of Public Works, the Directorate of Citizen Security , the Directorate of Tourism, and the Directorate of Public Services.
A person representing the State Human Rights Commission will also join, and five people representing organizations that defend the rights of the LGBTTTIQ community, who will be expressly invited by the President of the Council. In addition, other organizations and members of civil society may be incorporated that are approved in session at the proposal of the President or the members of the Council.
