Puerto Vallarta’s Gay+ Community Center held an open house on Jan. 18, where it invited the community to tour the center and receive updates on the funding and programing.
In just a year, the Gay+ CC has quickly filled a need in the community – local business leaders organized, established a board of directors, raised funds, hired an executive director, a physician, and more staff, and found a home.
At the Gay+ CC event the board of directors also recognized its top donors (David Smith and Matt Karimi), and announced that it has secured it’s government recognition as an official nonprofit organization.
Tom Viola, who just recently retired as the executive director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS was also recognized for his help in getting the community center started. Viola arranged an initial donation from Broadway Cares of $50,000 to start and followed with another $25k for a total of $75,000. Viola has spent the las 36-years at Broadway Cares.
