The first edition of the Metropolitan Diverse Beach Volleyball Tournament took place on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Playa Camarones. The event, organized by the day Municipal Government’s Office of Sexual Diversity, led by Carlos Plascencia, gathered 18 teams that brought their A-game to compete for cash prizes and English language scholarships at One English.
The tournament counted with the support of other government organizations including COMUDE, SEMARNAT and the municipal offices for Youth, Disabilities, and Indigenous Peoples; as well as sponsors Vallarta Gay+ Community Center, Donner & Asociados and One English.
Carlos Plascencia highlighted the importance of hosting the event at Playa Camarones—a location outside the Romantic Zone—with the goal of bringing visibility and inclusion to more areas of Puerto Vallarta. He also invited the community to visit the Office of Sexual Diversity at Parque Lázaro Cárdenas to continue organizing sports, cultural, and social events that benefit all the port’s residents.
For her part, organizer Livier Rico, thanked everyone who collaborated to bring this first edition to life, bringing together a diverse group of participants, including competitors from Indigenous communities.
