OPC, 598 Juárez, esq. with Aldama, Center
The Cultural Projects Office (OPC) presents two exhibitions in honor of its 10th anniversary: “First Was the Raicilla: Art and Culture of Agave and its Distillates” and “Ana Topoleanu: Those from the Other Coast: The Raicillero World.” These exhibitions explore the deep connection between agave, raicilla (a traditional agave spirit), and the cultural identity of Puerto Vallarta.
Contemporary Art Meets Tradition
Curated by renowned Mexican artist Rubén Ortiz Torres, “First Was the Raicilla” brings together over 20 national and international artists. Their works offer a fresh perspective on agave, its historical significance, and its social impact. From Cecilia Barreto to Dr. Lakra, the exhibition promises a diverse and thought-provoking exploration of this cultural cornerstone.
A Photographic Journey into Raicilla Production
“Ana Topoleanu: Those from the Other Coast: The Raicillero World” is a documentary photography project by Ana Topoleanu, with accompanying texts by Arturo Dávila. This exhibition takes viewers on a captivating journey into the heart of raicilla production on the Cabo Corrientes coast. Through stunning photographs, it reveals the generations-old traditions and the deep connection between these families and the land. Topoleanu, a renowned photographer whose work has been featured in The New York Times and Vogue, brings her signature intimate storytelling to this cultural exploration.
Commemorative Bottles and Support for OPC
Continuing its tradition of connecting art with community, OPC is offering commemorative bottles illustrated by participating artists. These limited-edition bottles, created in collaboration with local raicilla producers Atarraya and Embrujo, will be available for purchase. Proceeds will support OPC’s ongoing exhibitions and educational programs.
