If you are looking for places that are offering Covid-19 tests for your return trip home, Puerto Vallarta has really stepped up to make it easy for travelers.
Many of Puerto Vallarta’s resorts are now offering Covid-19 tests for its guest. And, the airports in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara have established laboratories for Covid-19 detection tests. In both airports, the cost of the antigen test will be $450 ($22 USD) pesos and the PCR of 1,450 pesos ($72 USD); prices will be applicable only to passengers on international flights. ($1 USD = $20.19 MXP). GAP recommended its customers to add an hour to their travel itinerary to avoid problems regarding documentation and requirements to fly, as well as long lines that may be generated to take the test.
Some of the resorts are offering the tests for free, and some have a fee (see list below). A combined effort by the tourism industry, including the Association of Hotels, DMCs, airlines, airport, the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat and The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion and Advertising Trust, shows an alliance with the Puerto Vallarta health sector to offer a quality service, bilingual and with competitive prices.
According to the CDC, all U.S. passengers must undergo a COVID-19 detection test within 72 hours prior to boarding their flight to the United States and carry the results in an electronic device or paper to present to the airline prior to travel.
People who have tested positive for a viral test in the previous 90 days and have met the isolation criteria may travel by presenting proof of a positive viral test and an official letter from the health provider or a public health official authorizing them to travel.
SETAC is offering the tests at both of it’s locations.

The tests must be carried out at least 72 hours in advance before returning to their countries of origin; therefore, according to their return itinerary, travelers must schedule their application . Through this alliance, they now have information and support from the hotel industry and the health sector to meet this requirement.
During the pandemic, Puerto Vallarta hotels have created a safe and healthy environment for their guests, with a series of very strict preventive biosecurity measures to shield staff and visitors against Covid-19, commented hotelier Abel Villa, representative of the Association of Hotels of this destination.
In addition to facilitating testing, Puerto Vallarta hotels have designed plans to support guests who test positive for Covid-19 while they are here. If they do not have severe symptoms, some hotels have prepared to allocate an area to receive them during the 14 days of the mandatory quarantine, providing them with three meals a day, room cleaning service, Wi-Fi and medical services if they require it, all this with special reduced rates.
“Of course we hope that all our visitors have a wonderful vacation in Puerto Vallarta, full of memorable experiences, and with a lot of health security, even with the support so that they comply with the Covid-19 test requirement, but if any of them test positive, you should know that the traditional local hospitality will be reconfirmed and they will be supported in everything that is required, so that they can pass the quarantine in a responsible isolation, until they are in optimal conditions to return home,” said Luis Villaseñor, director interim of the Trust for the Promotion and Tourism Advertising of Puerto Vallarta.
