The Palm’s New Sister Venue Will Open Friday, Nov. 15, 2024

The Palm Cabaret is going to have a sister venue, you all! Coco Cabaret will open on Nov. 15, with the first act opening at 6 p.m. as Santana, a tribute live band.

The opening weekend also includes Shakira Tribute Concert; Andra Covo; Temptation with Boys on Fire and Superheros with Boys on Fire.

Throughout its decades-long history, The Palm has provided a nurturing and supportive environment for a diverse range of talents to showcase their artistry.

From across-the-border talents such as Brian Justin Crum, ADA Vox, and Meghan Murphy to local stars like Eva Jimenez—renowned for her captivating performances in the Pink Show—and Roy Cruz, known for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, it has been the platform for these immensely talented artists to grow and flourish.

Naturally, this has led to a transformation from a business that once featured a single performance by the legendary Kim Kuzma at 10 p.m. to a now thriving operation with multiple shows staggered throughout the evening. And the inquiries from new talents to come and perform keep pouring in.

Mere four blocks from its current location, on Calle Fco. I. Madero, this Palm’s sibling will boast a larger seating capacity and a high ceiling to allow jaw-dropping gymnast choreography one would expect from a performance like The Pink Show. Many shows that have performed well will continue at the current location; a handful will move to the new spot.

A detailed list of the shows is available at Coco’s website, here. We are happy to report that Devil Wear Payless, a Provincetown hit, is coming to the Coco Cabaret in April 2025. The play will also be joined by Latoya London—a talented vocalist and American Idol Season 3 alumna—Well Strung who’d be returning after a few years of hiatus, and Megan Murphy performing at both venues.

Performances will be held at different times at The Palm and the Coco Cabaret to avoid competing against each other. The Palm shows will be scheduled for 5:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 9:00 PM, while the Coco Cabaret performances will start at 6:00 PM, 8:00 PM, and 10:00 PM. Posters and banners will also be color-coded to distinguish each venue.

But wait! It gets even better! Chris Lopez, the talented name behind the Beyonce and the Madonna shows, will collaborate with the management team at the Coco Cabaret and will have the artistic freedom to transform Coco into a bar/nightclub after hours with live singing and acrobatic shows, a concept he witnessed in Mexico City. Once the last organized performance is finished at 11:00 P.M, Coco Cabaret will operate as an entertainment club until the close.

Mark Rome will stay involved in the scheduling and booking of the acts at The Palm and Coco Cabaret, ensuring all shows start promptly as scheduled.

“There’s so much to a show such as dancers and backup singers,” Rome shared with me, “that unless you knock on the backstage door at eight, the performance isn’t gonna start at eight.”

Then he laughed; the same infectious laugh and a sense of humor that had carried him through times when things had been stressful running The Palm.

“Even when I am angry, I smile. I try to keep things positive through every conversation and end it with a similar note,” he said.

Like the times Mark jokingly fibbed to a bewildered artist it was time to perform, and they hadn’t had their wig on. Or the times when a new performer—a drag queen—would make their debut on stage and Mark, standing next to them, would quip, “You’re not gonna wear your earrings tonight?”

Despite enduring glaring looks and a mouthful of curses from the artist, Rome said it worked every time to calm their nerves seconds before the music began.

He laughed. “If we’re not having fun doing it, then why are we doing it? I would say to them.”

One can expect the same humor, lightheartedness, and stress management from Mark Rome as he takes on Coco Cabaret which will open on November 15 2024, one month after the 2024-25 season opening of the Palm.
