A new musical production titled “A Piece of My Heart”—a tribute to the music and life of Janis Joplin—will debut at Coco Cabaret (Francisco I. Madero 289, Zona Romántica) this month.
The show features vocalist Monti The Artist and is directed and produced by Jordon Carnegie. The production will run for two performances on Wednesdays April 15 and 29, 2026, at 5 p.m.
Production Details
The concert aims to recreate the atmosphere of the late 1960s by blending Joplin’s discography with narrative elements. According to the production team, the show focuses on the intersection of Joplin’s biography and Monti’s personal experiences rather than a standard impersonation.
Director Jordon Carnegie stated that the performance is designed to tell Joplin’s story through a lens of “honesty and respect,” specifically addressing themes of personal struggle and the role of music as a coping mechanism.
“We want people to feel seen in this show — especially those who have struggled, who felt different, who leaned on music to get through. Janis gave the world something raw and real. This is Monti’s way of saying thank you — and of continuing that conversation through her own life and voice,” says Carnegie.
For her part, Monti stated: “One of the hardest things about Janis’ story is that she never got the chance to see what healing could look like later in life. I did. There was a time when I didn’t think I’d still be here, and yet somehow I am. This show holds both of those realities — her life ending too soon, and mine continuing. It’s a celebration of her, but it’s also a quiet statement about hope, growth, and what’s possible when you survive what you didn’t think you would.”
About the Performer
Monti The Artist arrives in Puerto Vallarta following a career based in Austin, Texas. Her professional background includes:
- Awards: Recipient of a Hollywood Music in Media Award for original songwriting.
- Collaborations: Involvement in three Emmy-winning projects alongside established industry artists.
- Global Performances: Previous appearances at United Nations concerts and various international festivals.
Monti’s vocal style has frequently drawn technical comparisons to Joplin, particularly from musicians who performed with the late singer in Texas.
