New York-based actor and comedian Jamie Brickhouse returns to the Art Vallarta Theater (Pilitas 213, Amapas, Romantic Zone) to present his acclaimed show, I Favor My Daddy: A Tale of Two Sissies. Making its Puerto Vallarta debut, the production will run on Fridays, March 13 and 20, and Saturdays, March 14 and 21, 2026, at 7 p.m.

In an exclusive interview with Out & About PV, Jamie shared details about this solo performance, which chronicles his personal journey as a gay man fueled by the intuition that his father, Earl—affectionately known as “Daddy Poo”—was also gay.

With his signature comedic flair and perched on high heels, Jamie recounts the life stories that defined his relationship with his father – from a revelatory 1980s family trip to Acapulco, to the profound reflections following his father’s passing.

“Though he never admitted it, I found meaning behind the phrase everyone told me: ‘You favor your daddy,'” he explains.

I Favor My Daddy is a hilarious and touching spectacle in which Jamie portrays himself alongside a cast of characters from his life, including his father, mother, siblings, and family acquaintances.

“The play ultimately reflects many things I believe I inherited from my father: my talent for writing and performing, my addiction to alcohol, and… his homosexuality?” Jamie explores several provocative premises: Is Jamie everything Daddy Poo was but never quite became—gay, alcoholic, writer? Is Jamie simply the unfiltered version of his father?

Throughout the hour-long show, Jamie masterfully blends humor and tragedy, noting that “the funniest stories are often the truest.” He adds, “Fans of Will & Grace love my shows—including gay men of my generation and my father’s—because they can easily identify with the material.”

Written by Brickhouse himself, the show has earned critical acclaim since its 2018 FringeNYC premiere, where it was named a “Best Bet” by Theater is Easy. It later won the “Staff Pick” award at the 2019 FRIGID New York Festival. Critics have hailed the performance as “absolutely first rate” (Hi! Drama) and “fascinating, funny, warm and moving” (Fringe Review).

The show serves as a sequel to his previous solo performance, Dangerous When Wet: Booze, Sex, and My Mother, based on his 2015 memoir. That show was a hit at Art Vallarta in 2025, including a benefit performance for the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center at Casa Karma. It centered on Jamie’s struggles with drinking, his sexuality, and his mother, Mama Jean, whom he describes as a “Texas tornado.”

About Jamie Brickhouse

Originally from Beaumont, Texas, Jamie grew up in a conservative family fond of theater and the arts. He performed stand-up and comedic roles throughout high school and college before moving to New York after graduating with a journalism degree from the Trinity University of San Antonio. While building a career in book publishing and freelance writing, he also developed a drinking habit. “My career took off, and so did my addiction,” he jokes.

In 2008, after getting sober, Jamie began writing memoirs and essays as a therapeutic practice. This led to his published book and a return to the stage via comedy slams. A winner of the Moth GrandSLAM and Literary Death Match, Jamie has also voiced characters for Beavis and Butt-Head and appeared on PBS-TV. He lives in Manhattan with his husband, Michael.
