Puerto Vallarta health officials are strengthening HIV prevention and care services through specialized training for staff at the city’s Municipal Council for the Prevention of AIDS, known as COMUSIDA.
The training session, led by the Jalisco Health Secretariat, was held at the CAPASITS Puerto Vallarta, an outpatient center focused on the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections.
Psychologist Miriam Elizeth Pérez Flores, a specialist with the state health agency, conducted the workshop titled “Adherence, Counseling and Testing,” which focused on improving comprehensive patient care and strengthening the quality of services provided to the community.
According to officials, COMUSIDA participants received updated instruction on counseling techniques designed to provide compassionate, professional and empathetic care. Staff also reviewed procedures for administering rapid HIV tests and the proper application of testing reagents to help ensure more accurate and timely diagnoses.
The workshop also addressed strategies to improve medication adherence, with the goal of helping patients remain consistent with treatment plans and improve their overall quality of life.
City officials said the training is part of ongoing efforts by the administration of Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González to strengthen public health services in Puerto Vallarta.
