Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ nightlife, beach culture and community are highlighted in the latest episode of Grindr’s travel series “Host or Travel,” now streaming on YouTube and the Grindr app.
The 10-minute episode follows traveler Colton Dowling of Austin as he explores the city alongside local hosts Pelayo — a drag performer known for appearances at drag brunches at The Tryst Puerto Vallarta — and Luis Sánchez. Tristan Schukraft, CEO of Tryst Hotels, also appears throughout the episode.

The episode features scenes filmed along the Malecón, at local venues including Wave PV, Club 69 and Industry Nightclub, as well as aboard Schukraft’s boat, Pata Salada. Colton spends much of the episode with Luis, who is identified in the episode as one of Schukraft’s five boyfriends.

Puerto Vallarta was one of seven international destinations featured in the new season, with scenes including drag brunch, rooftop pole dancers and pool parties at The Tryst Hotel, along with open-air markets, boat trips and beach clubs. Grindr described the city as “built around community” and home to a gayborhood that “never has an off switch.”

“Host or Travel” is an original travel series from Grindr that explores LGBTQ destinations through nightlife, local recommendations, community spaces and the people who help define a city’s queer culture. The company says the series is designed to show how LGBTQ travelers find connection, safe spaces and authentic local experiences beyond traditional guidebooks.
Puerto Vallarta was the third stop in the season, following Sydney on May 12 and Austin on May 19. Other featured cities include Paris, Manila, Lisbon and Miami. New episodes are released Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Pacific time on the Grindr app and YouTube channel.
In promotional materials for the episode, Grindr described Puerto Vallarta as “not just a destination” but “a rite of passage,” pointing to drag brunch, rooftop dancers, pool parties at The Tryst Hotel and late-night energy in Zona Romántica.
The inclusion gave Puerto Vallarta another moment of international exposure as the city continues to build on its reputation as one of Mexico’s most visible LGBTQ travel destinations. The episode focused less on traditional tourism landmarks and more on the bars, hotels, beaches, events and social spaces that make the city a gathering place for LGBTQ travelers.
