The destination is part of a select list of cities that are most welcoming to LGBTQ+ travelers throughout the year

As the world celebrates Pride Month during June, the online booking site AirBnB published interesting information about the cities around the world that are considered the most friendly for LGBTQ+ travelers and Gay Friendly Puerto Vallarta is at the top of the list.

Airbnb found the top 10 LGBTQ+ destinations, but also learned that inclusive language helped incentive LGBTQ+ travelers – who by the way make up a significant percentage of leisure travelers.based on the feedback it receives of its users.

By analyzing 10 years of online reviews from around the world and counting mentions of phrases related to ” gay-friendly ,” the site found the 10 highest-rated cities for LGBTQ+ travelers: Puerto Vallarta, London, Madrid, Paris, New York , Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, Wilton Manors and Toronto.

The news comes as no surprise to those of use who live in Puerto Vallarta, but it us a welcome reminder to stay kind and friendly.

In April 2024, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust released data showcasing that in 2023, the city welcomed a staggering 2 million LGBTQ+ tourists, generating a record-breaking $17 billion pesos for the local economy.

This translates to a significant 40% contribution to Puerto Vallarta’s tourism GDP, according to Luis Antonio Villaseñor, general director of the Trust.

The influence is even more pronounced in specific areas like the Romantic Zone. Here, businesses draw up to 70% of their revenue from LGBTQ+ travelers, as highlighted by Javier Jiménez, president of the Vallarta Pride Organizing Committee and owner of local restaurants and bars.
