Tournament Set for Oct. 20
Puerto Vallarta’s Limpia tu Mar PV organization is hosting the first-ever International Trash Fishing Tournament, offering a unique opportunity to compete while cleaning up the Banderas Bay.
Following the devastating effects of Tropical Storm Narda in 2019, local tourist service providers witnessed the immense amount of trash impacting the beaches. This sparked the creation of Limpia tu Mar PV, a civil association dedicated to cleaning the ocean and raising awareness about marine pollution.
Join the Fight: Teams Needed:
The tournament, scheduled for October 20th, aims to remove over one ton of trash from the bay. Organizers are seeking participation from 30 boats, sponsored by companies or boat owners. Additionally, individual boat owners can register with their families and friends. Teams can range from four to six people, including children, fostering environmental education for future generations.
Clean Up, Earn Rewards:
The competition kicks off at Playa Los Muertos dock and covers the area from Punta de Mita to Cabo Corrientes. The focus is on collecting floating garbage, minimizing environmental impact. Registration costs $4,000 pesos per team, with proceeds supporting Limpia tu Mar PV’s ongoing cleanup efforts and equipment upgrades. Prizes will be awarded to teams collecting the most trash, and a celebratory gathering will cap off the day, fostering a sense of community and accomplishment.
