Puerto Vallarta will offer 200 free vaccines and rapid tests for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis on Tuesday, July 28, as part of World Hepatitis Day activities.
The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Plaza Lázaro Cárdenas, organized by the city’s Health Promotion Department and COMUSIDA Puerto Vallarta, in coordination with Health Region VIII, under the administration of Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González.
Dr. Miguel Ángel Suárez Ornelas, director of Health Promotion, said hepatitis often shows no symptoms in its early stages, making detection difficult. About 95% of hepatitis C patients can be cured with timely diagnosis and treatment, he said.
Enrique Ortega, coordinator of COMUSIDA Puerto Vallarta, said 200 rapid tests will be administered for each of the four diseases. The municipality has recorded 32 hepatitis C cases so far this year, and more than 1,417 people are currently receiving antiretroviral treatment for HIV, he said.
Officials urged residents to take advantage of the free services.
