Celebrating the authentic sights, sounds and tastes of Vallarta and raising money for the new highway sidewalk

The colonnaded courtyard of Puerto Vallarta’s historic Old Town Hall was the site of a fabulous Mexican Fiesta, including dinner and traditional entertainment on Friday, March 23.  Floral arrangements and two dozen tables filled the fountain courtyard as strings of colorful papel picata fluttered overhead.

Celebrating the city’s 100th birthday, the evening included a gourmet ‘tasting’ buffet provided by 25 top local chefs and restaurants and performances by the international award-winning Ballet Folklorico Tradiciones dancers, and Nuevo Continental Mariachi.

Local guitar-masters Piel Canela serenaded the 200 guests, followed by keyboard wizard Freddy Allen. Vallarta entertainment veteran Amy Armstrong got the evening going with her amazing vocals.  And, of course, there were Margaritas!

In its second year, Mariachis, Margaritas & More, organized by Viejo Vallarta and the Amapas Neighborhood Association, raised $118,500 pesos to buy construction materials for the Highway 200 Sidewalk Project.  The entire 300-meter project, including curbs, storm drains, retaining walls, support structures and railings, will cost an estimated $500,000 pesos.  ANA hopes to raise another $135,000 pesos, getting the project to its halfway point, before construction resumes in the fall.

You can help complete the sidewalk by ‘adopting’ a meter of pavement for $1,750 pesos.  Adopting 5 or 10 meters entitles contributors to memorial ceremic plaques on the wall at the end of the sidewalk.

For more information or to adopt a meter (or more!) of sidewalk, call the Amapas Neighborhood Association at 322-244-0185, or visit www.amapaspv.com.
