Vallarta Pride kicks off today (Wednesday, May 25, 2022) and brings with it an intense week for the LGBTQ+ community and businesses in Puerto Vallarta.

There will be different activities starting today on the Vallarta Pride agenda, including the Pink Dinner, an altruistic dinner to benefit DIF, tomorrow is the Pride Parade followed by the Block Party (which is traditional party in the street) and this weekend the fun race in high heels, the Drag Derby.

DIF is a decentralized non-profit agency that designs and develops multidisciplinary public social assistance programs

Organizers of the event held a press conference at the Almar Resort Hotel, which is serving as the main axis of the celebration. This year, organizers say, Vallarta Pride is reaching a whole new level with internationally renowned talent and epic events.

PINK DINNER

The Pink Dinner will take place today, Wednesday, May 25 at 7:30 pm in the new space ‘Eden’ within the Almar Group development, said businessman Vidal Meza. This event is a four-course altruistic dinner for the benefit of the DIF of Vallarta, chaired by Mrs. María de Jesus Lopez Delgado, president of the municipal DIF system of Puerto Vallarta, who is invited to dinner. Grupo Almar will donate $150,600 pesos (50 percent of the sale of tickets to the Pink Dinner) to the DIF system.

The Pink Dinner will feature special performances by ‘American Got Talent’ singer Bryan Justin Crum and Drag Queen ‘Valentina’ from reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race. Tickets are available at the Mantamar Beach Club and on their website and the cost is $90 dollars.

One of the most anticipated events is the Vallarta Pride Parade that will take place Thursday, May 26, starting at 7 p.m. The parade will depart in front of the Sheraton Hotel, ending at Rodolfo Gomez and Olas Altas streets.

The organizers expect between 10,000 and 15,000 people to participate throughout the journey and the after party.

For this colorful event, 40 floats have been registered; There will be three prizes for $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 based on originality and creativity of the floats/cars, said organizer Brian Kent.

After the pride parade, the party continues in the streets – Lazaro Cardenas and Constitucion to be exact, as an anticipated 3,000 to 6,000 people will gather to celebrate. Organizers are asking for a donation of $50 pesos at the entrance to help offset the cost of the stage and work staff.

Technically the Block Party will begin well before the parada starts, kicking off at 2 p.m. with a parade of different talents taking to the stage: Diana Villamonte, Valentina, Cecil-Beyonce, Regina Orozco and amazing local artists pampered from Vallarta’s gay and non-gay community. The stage has two large LED screens and professional light sets. The finishing touch will be shortly before midnight with the international artist Ultra Naté.

DRAG DERBY 2022

To end the Vallarta Pride celebrations, the traditional ‘Drag Derby’ will take place on Saturday, May 28, starting at 5p.m. on Pulpito Street. The participating drag queens will compete in different great tests such as a race in heels, a mechanical bull and a battle with water pistols. And the four finalists will compete for first place in a lip sync contest.

The winner will receive $15,000 pesos and the possibility of attending a similar race that will take place in Denver, Colorado. Also during the Drag Derby the public will be able to bet on the favorite drag and the winners will get coupons to spend in the businesses involved.
