For years, visitors have come to Puerto Vallarta for the beaches and stayed for the hospitality. Now, a growing number are coming for something else entirely: medical care. Vallarta Medical Center, one of the city’s hospitals, is positioning itself at the center of that shift through a new partnership with global medical tourism platform PlacidWay.
Vallarta Medical Center operates a hospital on Avenida Los Tules in the Díaz Ordaz neighborhood, with an intensive care unit, a pediatric intensive care unit, a cardiac catheterization area, an emergency department, an in-house laboratory, a dialysis clinic, a blood bank and closed MRI imaging. The hospital offers 28 medical specialties, including cardiology, general and vascular surgery, neurosurgery, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics and neonatology, orthopedic and trauma care, and esthetic medicine. It accepts more than 20 international insurance plans in addition to major Mexican private insurers, and staff include English, Spanish and French speakers. Dr. Alberto Marron serves as medical director.

The hospital has also shifted how it reaches patients outside its main campus. Vallarta Medical Center now offers house-call medical service, sending physicians to patients for assessments, follow-up X-rays and basic lab work, along with medical equipment rentals and 24/7 ambulance service.
The hospital’s alliance with PlacidWay is meant to connect that care with a wider pool of international patients. PlacidWay is a global platform that links patients with medical providers abroad, and founder and CEO Pramod Goel said the partnership reflects a turning point for the destination.
“Puerto Vallarta has reached an important moment in its evolution,” Goel said.
Lucrecia Marrón McNaught, administrative director of Vallarta Medical Center, said the partnership builds on qualities the city already has.

“Puerto Vallarta has always been a destination built around hospitality, trust and personal connection,” McNaught said, adding that working with PlacidWay “helps bring greater international awareness to the healthcare capabilities” available locally.
The alliance comes as Puerto Vallarta more broadly markets itself to North American patients seeking care that includes dental work, orthopedics and spine treatment, regenerative medicine, aesthetic procedures, fertility services and preventive health evaluations, often paired with a recovery stay in a beach destination.
For Vallarta Medical Center, the partnership is a chance to introduce a hospital already serving the Puerto Vallarta area to patients who may be discovering it for the first time — vacationers, expatriates and medical travelers looking for hospital-level care without leaving the Bay of Banderas.
