Every now and then, a new bar opens in Puerto Vallarta and immediately feels like it has always belonged here. Tommy’s is one of those places.
Tucked away in the heart of PV’s unofficial gay district, at Lázaro Cárdenas 324, Zona Romántica, Tommy’s brings something fresh to Puerto Vallarta’s nightlife scene: sophisticated design, great cocktails, welcoming hosts, and prices that won’t leave you questioning your life choices the next morning.
As someone who spent more than 25 years in the design industry, one of the first questions I asked when I walked through the door was, “Who designed this place?”
The answer surprised me.
The owners did.
No expensive design firm. No celebrity decorator. Just two guys with a vision, a lot of conversations, and apparently a few dog walks.
The result? A beautifully appointed space with low lighting, rich tones, comfortable seating, and an atmosphere that feels effortlessly cool. It’s reminiscent of the trendy cocktail bars you’d find tucked away in New York City’s Soho district or in Mexico City’s fashionable Polanco and Zona Rosa neighborhoods.
It’s stylish without being pretentious.
It’s upscale without being expensive.
Most importantly, it’s comfortable.

The owners, Paco and Pato, have been together for six years and share more than a relationship—they share a dream. Tommy’s was something they had talked about for years.
“Having our own bar was always something we discussed,” they told me. “When we saw the space, we immediately felt like it was us.”
As believers in manifestation, they trusted their instincts and moved forward with the project, despite knowing there were other interested parties looking at the location.

The name Tommy’s comes from one of their three dogs—Tommy, Mina, and Oskar.
Personally, I think they’ve accidentally created a brilliant roadmap for future expansion. Tommy’s today. Mina’s tomorrow. Oskar’s next? I’m just putting that idea into the universe.
The concept behind Tommy’s is refreshingly simple.
“We wanted a bar for friends. A place that feels good to be in. A place where everyone knows each other and new people are always welcome,” Pato said.
Picture 80’s-90’s hit show “Cheers”, where eventually everybody knows your name.
Mission accomplished.
Many locals may already recognize Paco and Pato from their years behind the bar at local bars in the area. Their reputation for
hospitality, personality, and creating memorable nights has followed them to this new venture.
They know how to make people feel comfortable, and that experience shows from the moment you walk through the door.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that they’re both bartending legends and, if we’re being completely honest, not exactly hard on the eyes either.
Tommy’s offers well drinks for just 100 pesos, with daily Happy Hour from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. featuring 80-peso well drinks and a cocktail of the day for only 60 pesos.
Yes, you read that correctly.
In a city where cocktail prices continue to climb, Tommy’s is proving that quality and affordability can still coexist.
The menu includes expertly mixed cocktails, a solid beer selection, and something I personally appreciate—a nice glass of wine when the mood calls for it.
The bar is open from 5:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., making it the perfect place to start your evening, end your evening, or accidentally do both.
Rumor has it Wednesday will be their day off, meaning Tommy’s will welcome guests six nights a week, Thursday through Tuesday.
Puerto Vallarta’s nightlife scene has always been one of its greatest strengths, and Tommy’s is a welcome addition. Great design, great drinks, great hosts, and a vibe that makes you want to stay for one more round.
And maybe another.
And perhaps one more after that.
Just don’t blame me when you become a regular.

Trust me—Tommy would approve.

Extensive renovations were done to the space before Tommy’s opened. It was once an office space. Here are some before photos so you can see the transformation:
