DIF of Puerto Vallarta has began the first stage of its “Program to Strengthen Diverse Families in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta.”
This program, designed in collaboration with people from civil society and members of the Municipal Sexual Diversity Council (now grouped in the Vallarta Diversity Network), seeks to train professionals in key areas for a better understanding and support of family diversity.
The first phase of this program focuses on the training of lawyers, psychologists and social workers of the institutional Delegation of the Attorney General’s Office for the Protection of Girls, Boys and Adolescents.
The starting sessions are led by psychologist Omar Ismael Rossi, known for his psychoanalytic and Gestalt orientation, specialized in problems of the LGBTQ + community and with experience in journalism and audiovisual media. The focus of these meetings is on the ABCs of diversity, highlighting the differences between sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
The “Program to Strengthen Diverse Families” will be developed in three stages. After this first stage of professional training for public servants, the second stage will focus on institutionalized childhoods of the DIF and the personnel who care for them, using methods adapted to their age. The third stage, of an inter-institutional nature, will address school communities at administrative, teaching and student levels.
Roberto Ramos, director of DIF Puerto Vallarta and who led the first session, highlighted the importance of the program, stating that “it is essential to guarantee adequate and respectful care for all families, particularly the LGBTIQ+ community.”
“This initiative represents a significant advance in the efforts of the DIF of Puerto Vallarta to promote equality and respect for diversity, aligning with the objectives of the Municipal Sexual Diversity Council, established last June by the plenary session of the Vallarta council and installed in August by the municipal president,” he noted.
He reported that the Vallarta Diversity Network has played a crucial role in the development and execution of the “Program to Strengthen Diverse Families” in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta. “With a commitment to promoting inclusion and defending human rights, this network has been a fundamental ally in inter-organizational collaboration for the success of the program,” he said.
The Vallarta Diversity Network unites various organizations such as Vallarta Trans, Transties Vallarta, Conexión LGBT Vallarta, Diverso Vallarta, Seremos Padres, Vallarta Pride and MOViii and seeks respect for all identities, non-discrimination, and transparency, principles that are fundamental . for the development of a more inclusive and respectful Puerto Vallarta.
