More than 3,500 bears will be coming to Puerto Vallarta as part of the 19th annual BeefDip Bear week, which will be held Jan. 29 to Feb. 5, 2023.
It’s one of the largest single week gatherings of bears in North America, that started out as a simple small gathering of friends.
“Of course there’s always the dream of expanding but you can’t really picture how far it’s going to get,” said BeefDip Founder Steve Buczek. “But BeefDip Bear Week has been steadily and continuously growing, breaking new records and reaching levels that we couldn’t have possibly imagined when everything started 20 years ago.”
It’s not the only bear event going on that week. Bearadise will host its fifth annual international bear festival Feb. 1 to 5 and One Six One Bar will host BearTrap on Feb. 3 with DJ Justin Nicoll.
With more than 3,500 bears and their admirers coming to Puerto Vallarta for BeefDip Bear Week, the economic spill over into the local economy is tremendous. While organizers hesitate to put a price tag on the impact, they say it is tremendous and helps all local businesses.
“Thanks to all the bears who keep coming we are seeing sold out hotels months in advance and crowded bars all week long and beyond,” Buczek explained. “This is not limited to our official venues but it’s seen all over the Romantic Zone. This is something we are very grateful for because we love to see the local business and the beautiful people of Puerto Vallarta grow and thrive.”
And BeefDip Bear Week isn’t just a big party that benefits local businesses. The group makes sure that local nonprofits are benefactors as well –
“We have managed to raise more than $170,000 Mexican Pesos and donate to a number of local charities including Los Niños de Magisterio, RISE Orphanage, and Vallarta Food Bank,” Buczek said. “This year we will continue to benefit SETAC which has been our main charity of choice for many years.”
BeefDip Bear Week is actually celebrating its 21st year anniversary, but organizers said since there were two off-years in the past (including 2021 that was canceled because of the COVID pandemic) it will be the 19th event.
“Our 20th edition of BeefDip will take place in 2024, in which of course we’re planning a massive anniversary celebration,” Buczek said.
Buczek said the event takes almost a full year to plan, and appreciated all of the help and support from local leaders and businesses.
“We’d like to thank the tourism board of Puerto Vallarta for their support this year, MISTR, SETAC and our new sponsor this year, Pinnacle,” he said. “And thank you to our amazing venues that include Mantamar, Almar Resort, CC Slaughters, The Top, Blue Chairs Resort, Studs Bear Bar and Los Amigos.”

“We also have new venues joining like the newly expanded STUDS BEAR BAR, which will feature a three-day BeefDip takeover on both of their levels from January 30th to February 1st featuring DJ’s Pony De Seas from Vallarta, Division 4 and of course our local favorite DJ Giaco,” Buczek said. “Giaco has been with BeefDip from day one and is a staple in the Vallarta scene and Hoolio Kmacho.”
Additionally you’ll get to see the international debut of Maddison Avenue (the Queen all the way from Toronto), and Effie Pasero (American idol) will be hosting Bearaoke night.
You’ll also find a new sunset cocktail party at Chictini by Pinnacle (who has joined as a sponsor this year) and there will be a second Foam Party in the week at Blue Chairs.
“That foam party is powered by our friends from MadBear Spain, which is one of the biggest and longest running bear events in Europe,” Steve added.
