Businesses, schools and tourism services in Puerto Vallarta have resumed normal operations Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, after Jalisco Gov. Pablo Lemus announced the deactivation of the state’s “Code Red” security alert following days of unrest.

In a public statement Tuesday morning, Lemus said the state’s security council agreed to lift the Red Code designation, clearing the way for the full restoration of daily life and economic activity throughout Jalisco.

“The agreement seeks to ensure that residents can return to their activities with certainty and institutional support,” Lemus said.

In Puerto Vallarta authorities emphasized that hotels, restaurants, public transportation and tourism services would operate normally. The city is currently busy removing more than 200 vehicles that were set on fire, including buses and large trucks, so that traffic flow can be restored.

State officials said security forces will maintain a strategic presence, particularly along federal and state highways, and coordination among municipal, state and federal agencies will continue under established security protocols.

Although the Red Code has been lifted, the state’s security council will remain in permanent session to respond immediately to any incident that could disrupt public order, officials said.

Lemus thanked residents, business owners, transport operators and tourism service providers for their cooperation during the security response, saying their collaboration helped limit broader economic and social impacts.

Local authorities in Puerto Vallarta said the focus now is on reinforcing confidence among residents and visitors as the city returns to routine activity.
