The new modules allow expedited passage through immigration when entering Mexico
To facilitate the entry of passengers from abroad into the country, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport has implemented 10 digital access modules, in which the user places their passport on a scanner and a photograph is taken to perform a facial verification of the passenger, a process that takes approximately 35 seconds. With this technology, waiting times are significantly reduced.
The purpose of the Autonomous Migration Filters is for passengers to complete their immigration entry in a personal, orderly, simple, agile and safe manner. To use them, certain requirements must be met: have an electronic passport valid for more than 180 days, be of legal age, enter Mexico as a tourist, not travel with minors and be a national of certain countries.
The machines have been going through testing since early 2024. Puerto Vallarta becomes the fourth city in Mexico to use Autonomous Immigration Filters. Cancún and Mexico City are already equipped with advanced verification systems. These devices are designed to swiftly detect potential fraud or document falsifications, ensuring a safer and more reliable entry process.
Those with Permanent or Temporary Resident cards are NOT to use these machines – they are for tourists only.
The following steps outline the process for using these autonomous immigration filters:
- Locate the designated line and have your passport at the ready.
- Open your passport to the page containing your photograph and personal information.
- Scan your passport on the reader. Position yourself within the designated yellow circle, where facial recognition will take place.
- A series of validations will be conducted on your biographical, biometric, and flight information.
- Upon successful completion of the process, a receipt bearing a QR code and a digital stamp will be issued.
- Scan the QR code on the receipt and download the Multiple Digital Immigration Form from the website, which can be completed at your convenience before departing Mexico.
