Members of the Red Diversidad Vallarta coalition met with state regional prosecutors to establish concrete measures aimed at improving how the justice system handles cases involving LGBTQ+ individuals, according to a press release issued Thursday, May 28, 2026.
During the working session, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office designated Elizabeth Rosales, an attorney and assistant director, as the official liaison for LGBTQ+ community affairs. Officials also announced that investigators have intensified their efforts in the ongoing case of Óscar Gael Maldonado.
The meeting also yielded plans for an upcoming training workshop for activists and community organizations. The initiative aims to demystify criminal court procedures, equipping advocates to better support community members facing potential crimes or violence.
Local leadership present at the meeting included Carlos Plascencia, director of the Sexual Diversity Office for the Puerto Vallarta city government; Poncho Dávalos, president of the II Cabildo de la Diversidad (Diversity Council); Alan Yamil Hinojosa, general secretary of the 2025 Cabildo de la Diversidad; Vicko Torres, representing Red Diversidad Vallarta; and Víctor Espíndola, president of the MOVii movement.
Red Diversidad Vallarta emphasized that these developments are the direct result of institutional dialogue, community organizing, and a collective push to ensure that justice is served with a focus on diversity.
